i get a chuckle when i watch that show on tuesday nights as it portrays what would happen the the world, if people should all dissapear.
since jw's are only 2/10% of the world's population and almost zero% in many countries the infrastructure would rapidly decay.

in my lifetime of knowing jehovah's witnesses, i recognized very few as being extremely intelligent.
most seemed to just go along with the program.. i noticed we have a number of "very intelligent" exjws here..
How are you defining intelligence? how clever they are? or a combination of that and ability to apply? I normally see inteligence as how clever someone is......
There are those who are intelligent and those who want to "appear" intelligent. Neither means that you have the ability to apply your knowlege to day to day life, have any common sense.
Truely intelligent people tend be very meek and mild mannered and will rarely call themselves intelligent, the one thing that I have found however is that the majority of them have little social skills or common sense. How do I know? I went to university with them and studied engineering! They truely are brilliant people and the stuff in their minds is just mind boggling, even to me who has an understanding of what they are talking about, just don't ask them to pick up a spanner or to cook you dinner!
Then there are people who want to "appear" intelligent. These people normally didn't go to university and tend to have a chip on their shoulder about it, almost like they are making up for something. They are desparate to be acknoleged as intelligent. I am really not sure why. Usually they are the sort who will laud their knowlege over others, whilst not really knowing. Usually they can be easily picked apart!
The reason i asked how intelligence is defined is because i see intelligence as how clever you are. It has nothing to do with the ability to apply the knowlege or have common sense!
Very Intelligent people with the ability to apply the intelligence in a practical sense are very rare and it is people like this who really won't become JW.
was talking to a current jw elder contact a while back and he mentioned to me that "the society" was wanting local elders (and i assume ms's) to take fema community emergency response team training.

There are other benefits to being a Emergency response group
(this information is a about 5 years old so could be out of data potentially and is also based on uk practice)
If you are an emergency response or relief centre, your location is provided with power on a higher grid level. ie you won't be cut off first.
secondly you will be provided with some level 4 gsm access allowing your gold leader + silver leaders to communicate. Ie when everyone elses phone has shut down or the network is shut down for emergency repsose only, the system will let you make calls
however the view of the emergency response groups is that you take ANYONE in the community!

The song was a tribute to his brother but the song lyrics question mass conformity and the pressure it puts you under. Whilst not a JW, as a kid I always struggled to fit in and also meeting the expectations of my parents so the song is kind of fitting.

one congregation phenomenon i have observed in a variety of halls - older, not so model material brothers have a real chance with younger, attractive sisters - and often at the prodding of the young sisters parents and congregation members.. and if you have a little more scratch than the average jw brother (which isn't hard to do with a bunch of window washers), you really have an advantage.. a 40 year old man walking through the mall would have zero chances with an attractive 18+ year old girl.
but take that same man, who has been faithfully attending meetings and doing all the right things and put him in the kingdom hall and suddenly anything is possible.. sad, but true.. of course, who wants all the drama that comes with a girl that young - but it is something i have observed.. when i was in my early 20's and came back into "the truth", and i had a few dollars - and i had so many sisters tripping all over themselves for me... and the ages range from late teens to late 30's.

He sounds a bit like one of my friends ex. He was older and had a girfriend and then dumped her for my friend who was 23/24 at the time when she hooked up with him, he kept her around for about 8 - 10 years and has now ditched her for a younger model who is about 22.

as the science scandals keep coming, the air has gone out of the climate-change movement.
Well this is isn't the first time someone "sexed up" the facts.
Even if the earth is not warming up as fast as predicited and so on and so forth the world does have to address a few issues:
a) we are rapidly using up the earth resources faster than they can be replaced
b) we are having an impact on the wildlife
Quick fixes such as us all driving hybrid cars and stopping the japanese hunting the whales for food will not help. (Hybrids btw are no more fuel efficent than an average european car , plus take more energy to manufacture and japanese whaling accoounts for less than 10% of whale deaths per year, 90% are caused by collisions with commercial shipping)
We have to change the way we live!
Better urban planning / transportation to reduce the reliance on the car, promoting walking, public transport
Better designed cars to make them lighter, cleaner, use less fuel whilst maintaining safety.
Improved housing design to make them use less energy.
Reduce the distance that we transport goods.
There is one downside to all of this.....its going to cost you money!
i knew that jehovah's witnesses were callous and cruel but this just takes it to a new level.. my children's house was burned in a fire and their idiot mother (my ex wife) did not have insurance on the house.. home depot is trying to help them and has offered to donate materials to repair the house and has asked habitat for humanity to get involved to supply the labor.. the habitat for humanity district manager came to my children's house and met the home depot district manager and my children.. after they left my children's grandmother (who lives in the house) told them that if habitat for humanity is involved in fixing the house that she will refuse to live there any more because they are involved with christendom.
so, she is putting pressure on my ex wife to leave the house burned and leave my chlidren (her grandchildren) homeless.. my middle daughter said "well, we will miss you when you leave".
my youngest daughter said, "well i guess i won't be seeing you any more because i refuse to live in a burned house when people are offering to help fix it but you and my mother are so stupid and retarded that you won't let them help".. please tell me that my ex wife won't be stupid enough to go along with this nonsense.
